Bijoux is a family-run jewellery studio on Ponsonby Road, Auckland. Three generations of jewellers have shaped our craft since 1988, specialising in custom designs, heirloom restorations, and handmade pieces that carry meaning for a lifetime.
The next generation began at the same bench. From a young age, Matt spent his time beside Kev, learning the family trade through observation, repetition, and the quiet rituals of making—marking the beginning of a second generation of jewellery making.
Our jewellery store began here, at Auckland’s Browns Mill Market in the early 1970s. Kev worked as a resident jeweller, making and selling pieces by hand in a market that became a cornerstone of the city’s creative life.

As the years passed, Browns Mill came under pressure. Changing conditions and the realities of the co-operative made its future uncertain.
For Kev, it marked a turning point—leading him to pursue a workshop and storefront, carrying the same commitment to handmade work into a new setting.

In 1988, the first Bijoux brick-and-mortar store opened on Ponsonby Road. With the opening of the shop, Matt stepped into the work more formally—moving from learning beside Kev to working alongside him.

Through the 1990s, the workshop found its stride.
Commissions extended beyond the shop, including work for film and television such as Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules.
At the same time, the store became part of the fabric of Ponsonby Road—serving a growing community, alongside a handful of notable clients who found their way through the door.
During this period, the shop moved further along Ponsonby Road to its current home at 208.

The family trade continues to this day on Ponsonby Road. Since settling into our current home at 208 Ponsonby Road in 1996, making by hand has remained at the centre of everything we do.

The family trade continues through a new generation. Since 2022, Matt’s daughter Chyna has worked alongside him at the bench, becoming the third generation of jewellers.
